Second day, was a 7.5 hour day, 404 mile to Davenport, Iowa where we stopped to visit friends who relocated there during one of LEAD downsizing. We camped in front of their house!
Day three was an 8 hour day and 424miles, we were traveling I80W to I29N. Stopping at Union Grove State Park just north of Sioux City, SD. What a lovely park, pictured here:
Oh forgot to tell you that we stopped this day at a Danish windmill in Elk Horn, Iowa. What a neat place with a great story. They bought a windmill in Denmark (1975) and brought it there to reconstruct. What a labor of love.
Then day Four. A nine hour driving day, 434 miles on I90W. Wow the midwest winds really blew this day! That is a killer on the gas mileage and not comfortable driving either. We passed a sculpture garden along I90 that we really have to stop and see some trip.
We are just 14 miles from Wyoming. Tomorrow will be another 400+ mile day and we plan to camp in the Lewis and Clark Nat'l Forrest, Montana. We will travel I90W to Rt89 which is a scenic byway. 100 miles of that will be gorgeous but I hope we can enjoy it with such a long travel day. We will then be about 150 miles from the Canadian crossing using Rt 15. We will then slow down to explore Banff and Jasper Nat'l Parks. They look gorgeous!
